The much speculated U2 tour was briskly cancelled due to Bono's emergency back surgery. As a result, the band may lose nearly 148 million. U2's manager stated that “If we play or not, touring costs is 741,000 a day.”
The Edge stated that the canceled dates may be performed in August date, but there is no confirmation of this.
U2 formed in 1976 in Dublin, Ireland, consisting of Bono (vocals and guitar), The Edge (guitar, keyboards, and vocals), Adam Clayton (bass guitar) and Larry Mullen, Jr. (drums and percussion).
The band had become a top international act by the 80s, as characterized by Bono's passionate vocals and The Edge's textural guitar playing. They were a more successful live act than their record selling until the release of the 1987 album, The Joshua Tree, which elevated the band's status to superstars. U2’s sound has continually changed with the times, as shown by their response to the dance and alternative rock revolutions and their own sense of musical stagnation by reinventing themselves with their 1991 album Achtung Baby, as well as the associated Zoo TV Tour.
U2 has won 22 Grammy Awards and has sold more than 145 million albums worldwide. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005 in their first year of eligibility. Throughout their career, U2 has campaigned for human rights and social justice causes, including Amnesty International, the ONE Campaign, and Bono's Debt, AIDS, Trade in Africa campaign.
